The first commercial pasta factory in the United States opened on the Brooklyn waterfront in New York City in 1848. Owned by French immigrant Antoine Zerega, the factory housed simple machinery powered by just one horse; pasta strands were then laid out on the roof to dry. Zerega Pasta is still around today, but needless to say, pasta production has come a long way.
