Text of the New Testament by Kurt Aland and Barbara Aland
This is perhaps the best introduction to the Critical Editions of the New Testament Text and to the theory and Practice of Textual Criticism of the New Testament. It is a must have for every student of the Greek New Testament. The book is filled with charts and illustrations that vividly illumitate the history of the New Testament text. The Aland's are first rate textual critics. The Alands served as coeditors of the Nestle-Aland text of the Greek New Testament - the standard text in use today.

Introduction to the History of Christianity by Tim Dowley, ed.
This is a good medium sized introduction to church history. It is very readable and covers all of the events essential to a well-rounded survey of two thousand years of church history.
The book was written from a British perspective (it was published originally in England), and that gives it an interesting attraction, especially in the sections on the rise of Anglicanism and on American Christianity from the time of the original colonists until the current decades. The brevity and readability also, unfortunately, reduce the use of this volume as a comprehensive research source. There is little documentation and most events are told from one perspective alone.
The book's strong points include readability, easy transition from one time period to another, a "bird's-eye-view" of church history, highlights concerning most important ideas and/or events, and a good presentation of the unity of Christian faith throughout the centuries, countries, and denominations.
This is a good survey introduction to church history. It would be a handy reference tool for the Christian who would like to understand the broad scope of church history.

The Text of the Old Testament by Ernst Wurthwein, Trans. by Erroll F. Rhodes
This is perhaps the best introduction to the Critical Editions of the Old Testament Text and to the theory and Practice of Textual Criticism of the Old Testament. It also is a must have for every student of the Old Testament. The history of all the various texts and their variants - the Masoertic Text, the Samaritan Pentateuch, the Septuagint, the Aramaic Targums, the Peshitta and many others are all discussed in good detail. There is a wonderful set of "plates" showing numerous ancient texts and an extensive research oriented Bibliography.
