Everything from rabbit's feet for luck to "black Bibles" for satanic worship seem to have become popular cultural features. Penn State associate professor Bill Ellis examines this phenomenon -- which he describes as making the philosophical accessible to the populus -- in his new book Lucifer Ascending: The Occult in Folklore and Pop Culture (University of Kentucky, 2004).
